I went for my first boxing class today.

Yes, my body hurts - in a good way though.

Jab, jab, left hook, right upper cut... shadow boxing is fun.

My new pair of running shoes - New Balance 768s absolutely rock. I've barely run 20 miles in them (this run included) and I am in love with them. I'm going to give them another 20 or so miles and then go out and buy the same pair again.

You know, finding that special someone is well... special. And when you find that special someone, you do whatever you can to hold on. You love her, hold her.. cherish her (all the thing's that Bryan Adams talks about). And importantly, you be honest - to her, to yourself and to the world.

But then, take [info]jugga, my Mallu half brother (no, not by blood) - a lying cheating clean shaven dog if there ever was one. True love has at last found him and yet he will not openly admit to it. He has broken several hearts ([info]amitng and [info]kalyan come to mind) on his way to semi-adulthood but now that he is willing and able to do his 'tour of duty', he will not let his 'close' friends in on the truth.

This is, as you can well imagine, sacrilege. As his friends, we do *not* deserve this.

I hereby propose the following:
- Superhero JV stop messaging us 'Hey Baby' type messages. He is now a committed man and should start acting like one. Enough with this flirting. I know some of you will find this painful, but it really is time to move on
- Juggi takes action to correct the lies about himself on Facebook and Orkut
- Juggi grow back his mustache (why? ask [info]bipingm, a fellow Mal)

I know there are additions that you would like to see made to this list. Please feel free to add *any* as you see fit.

ING Georgia Half Marathon

So I ran my second half marathon - ING Georgia Marathon and Half-Marthon in the lovely, rustic city of Atlanta, GA. The course was much more difficult than I'd imagined actually - plenty of elevation changes. That combined with the fact that I was breaking in a new pair of shoes meant that my running time was not as good as I'd hoped it'd be - I finished with an approx time of 2:10. The good part - my recovery time this time round was limited to just a couple of days.

Next up, I run the Salt Lake City Half Marathon in Salt Lake City, UT on April 19,2008.

Current Music: Thermal and a Quarter - Holy Jose
Dear Lazyweb,

I recently bought a new pair of running shoes and am in the process of breaking them in. The shoes fit great but my right shoe seems to be a bit loose. This is not something new - my right foot just seems to be a bit smaller than my left. Now, I could always take care of this problem by buying another pair of shoes a half size smaller than what I own and mix and match but since I am not a rich guy (like [info]kalyan) nor a rock star (like [info]derherr), I will have to come up with something else.

Please help.

Lovingly yours,
Ashwin

Current Music: Thermal and a Quarter - How can I get your groove?
I just read on Gaurav's blog that the 4th Thermal and a Quarter album - This is it - is about to become available for general consumption (yay!). For now, you can listen *all* songs online on the TAAQ MySpace page. Check out the album cover below:

Thermal and a Quarter to me are the *original* Indian band. It is the first Indian band that I fell head over heels for. Motherjane, Colourblind, Orange Street, Cryptic, Phenom - all good. Really good. But Thermal started it for me. And still does it for me.

Go get the album people. Now.

Current Music: Feist - One Evening
I spent the weekend in New York City with [info]manubhardwaj, who was kind enough to let me stay at his apartment in the East Village. My first impression on entering his apartment (which he shares with another chap) was - holy shit, this is small! My apartment is twice as large (and I do not even share). But then, as Manu so kindly pointed out, he lives in Manhattan while my humble abode is in Texas.

It is a rather good point actually.

Saturday was pretty shitty from a weather perspective. We walked around Manhattan - checked out the Guggenheim (props to Manu's employer for the free entry) - modern art for the most part escapes me. Some of the stuff was pretty cool but the others seemed.. well.. inane. Needless to say that eating out in Manhattan is an absolute joy. Places that are small, crazy small, big, big with insanely good looking hostesses - Manhattan's got it all baby. Oh, and the food was pretty good too. And when you live in the city, transportation is, for lack of a better word, easy.

We ran the Colon Cancer Challenge 15K on Sunday. I did all right - came in at just over 9 minutes/mile. My shoes which were never really meant for running in the first place (I suspect - the shoes were picked out of the Adidas store on Brigade road over 3 years ago) have just disintegrated. Case in point - my insoles are so worn out they offer zero cushioning in certain places. I can barely run for 100m before my right foot starts complaining. Obviously this is not ideal. My right arch is still sore, the bottom of my feet are super sensitive right now and my right foot as a whole is a bit numb.

Bottom line - the time for new shoes has arrived.

I had a basic gait analysis done in NYC (tip of the hat to Manu) with the recommendation being that of stability shoes to provide support and good cushioning (to counter my mild pronation). So far, I have checked out the New Balance 1223s, Mizuno Wave Nirvna 4 and a couple of Asics (GT 2130s and Kayano's). The Asics didn't fit and the New Balance's were off just a little from being the perfect fit. The Mizuno's seemed to do the trick - though I need to take them out for a proper test ride before deciding on them.

Notes to self:
- Once one has identified the ideal pair of running shoes, one will go out and buy another pair of the same and then alternate between them
- One will not wait until the very last second and beyond before getting basic equipment for running (this is elementary damnit!)

Oh and also, I checked out the Apple Store - I am really starting to get tempted to take a sip of the Apple kool-aid - but all that apart, what a store!

Feb. 27th, 2008 @ 11:40 am Post ski recovery and a Question
Current Location: BP Chicago Office
4 days of intense skiing left me with a sore left heel, tired knees and a cold burn (first time!). Let's just say that I took it real easy last week - no running, early to bed and all that good stuff.

However, with March promising to be fairly busy from a running perspective, it was time to get back in shape. I ran 5K yesterday combined with the usual muscle training. Body does not show any signs of excessive strain and that is a good sign.

Question: How does one get hold of a brand new MacBook Pro bought by your girl while making it look legit?

The answer is simple really - make a livejournal post about how your laptop has broken down. People will comment saying how they feel your sorrow - oh you poor dear, boohoo and all that. And now, you are free to grab that MacBook Pro that you had your eyes on for a whole week and come out clean. Not bad, I'd say.

What really surprised me though was how the girl in question fell for this? Hmmm....
